This past Friday four friends and myself went up into the mountains to do a little bit of hiking. Not far from Heredia is a place called Monte de la Cruz (Cross Mountain). Anna had done some research and saw that it was something we would like to do – so we went!

Our friend Suzie (who is living in San Pedro) came with us, so we planned to meet her at the bus stop in Heredia at 9:45 to catch the 10 o’clock bus up to the mountain. However, 9:45 came and Suzie wasn’t there. Ten o’clock came, and we missed the bus. We were a bit worried, since Suzie had never been to Heredia before and she was going there alone. But around 10:45 she finally showed up. Turns out she got off a few stops too early and was waiting for us about a mile down the road. Thankfully, she figured it out!

So at eleven o’clock we were on the bus and on our way. It was about a 30 minute ride until the end of the line. There, we got off and walked about one kilometer uphill to the entrance of the park. The trees here are very tall, which is what I was trying to portray in the photo above^^

It was so  great to get up in the mountains, with so much fresh air, so many trees, the smell of mud.. we loved it! It was only 600 colones to get into the park, and once inside we found our way easily to the cruz (cross).

After we sat up there for a bit, we went exploring on some trails and ended up at the park within the park. This park has a soccer field and tons of places for children to play. Of course, we had to play on the equipment a bit, too!

We also ate lunch there as we’d packed ourselves some food, and there were picnic tables all over the place. :]

It was a wonderful afternoon with some lovely people! We plan on going back some day, to get out of the city and breathe some fresh air. :]
